Indonesia's Ministry of Communication and Digital has officially enabled the use of the 5925-6425 MHz frequency band for Radio Local Area Network (RLAN) technologies, including WiFi 6E and future standards. The regulation, Decree No. 12 of 2025, outlines technical standards for devices operating in this band, categorising them as Low Power Indoor (LPI) and Very Low Power (VLP). Key parameters include frequency range, power limits, spectral density, and antenna requirements, with specific conditions for indoor and very low power devices.
This article outlines the key provisions of Indonesian regulation Kepmen-Kominfo No. 13 of 2025, which governs the acceptance of foreign test reports for telecommunications equipment certification in Indonesia. It highlights the stringent criteria for foreign laboratory recognition, with a particular emphasis on the importance of Mutual Recognition Agreements (MRAs) between foreign accreditation bodies and the Indonesian accreditation body (KAN). Understanding these requirements is critical for manufacturers aiming to efficiently access the Indonesian market.
The Indonesian government has restructured its telecommunications and informatics agencies, merging the SDPPI and PPI into the Directorate General of Digital Infrastructure (DJID). This change aims to streamline operations and accelerate digital transformation.
SDPPI Director General Decree 109/2024 regarding foreign test centers expired on 31 December 2024. Test reports from SDPPI-accredited foreign test centers issued after 1 January 2025, are currently invalid for certification until a new decree is issued. Test reports issued before 1 January 2025, have a 6-month grace period (until 1 July 2025) for use in the certification process, as per PM KOMINFO 5/2024.
On 13 May 2024, the General Directorate of the SDPPI (Indonesia) issued Decree No. 260 of 2024 on Technical Standards of Short-Range Devices (SRD), replacing Decree No. 161 of 2019. This new Decree will come into effect on 11 August 2024.
The Ministry of Communications and Informatics of the Republic of Indonesia (SDPPI) has issued KOMINFO Keputusan No. 05 dated the 3rd of January 2024 after preliminary public consultation on Non-Cellular Low Power Wide Area Network Telecommunications Equipment Technical Standards.
