KOMDIGI Opens 6 GHz Wi-Fi Bands

The Indonesian Ministry of Communication and Digital (KOMDIGI) has officially enabled the use of the 5925-6425 MHz frequency band for Radio Local Area Network (RLAN) applications with the issuance of Decree No. 12 of 2025, effective from January 15, 2025. This regulation permits the operation of technologies such as Wi-Fi 6E within this 6 GHz band.

The decree establishes the technical standards for these devices, categorising them as Low Power Indoor (LPI) and Very Low Power (VLP). The designated frequency range for 6 GHz Wi-Fi in Indonesia is 5925-6425 MHz.
For Low Power Indoor (LPI) devices, the maximum transmit power is capped at 23 dBm (200 mW) EIRP. LPI devices must be used exclusively indoors and powered by AC, with battery use prohibited for access points. They are also restricted from use in drones or vehicles.
Very Low Power (VLP) devices have a maximum transmit power of 14 dBm (25 mW) EIRP. VLP devices are permitted for indoor use and in tethering mode, with client devices allowed to be AC powered (for charging only) or battery powered under the control of an access point, but they cannot be used in drones.

The regulation allows for channel bandwidths up to 320 MHz, and all 6 GHz band devices must employ integrated antennas, with weatherproof casings forbidden. Limits for Out-of-Band Emissions and Spurious Emissions are also defined. The software and firmware of these devices must not allow for changes to the country code, working frequency, RF output power, or other radio frequency parameters that would violate the technical standards.

For the initial 12 months following the decree's enactment (until January 15, 2026), testing of 6 GHz RLAN devices must be carried out at the Center for Telecommunication Device Testing (BBPPT). Subsequently, testing will be open to both domestic and international test centres holding a Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA) with Indonesia. Test reports prior to 15 January 2025, based on the old regulation (Perdirjen SDPPI No. 2 of 2019), can be used for certification until 15 July 2025, provided that the necessary parameters are added to meet the new requirements. Test reports issued between 15 January 2025 and 15 July 2025 under the old regulation are only valid for certification under the old regulation until 15 July 2025. Test reports issued after 15 January 2025, with reference to this new Decree No. 12 of 2025, are valid for the certification process without restriction.
