As part of the ongoing efforts of the Malaysian 5G Task Force, the Standard and Industrial Research Institute of Malaysia (SIRIM) and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) have announced details of a temporary approval for 5G while the Malaysian 5G Technical Specification is being finalized.

The temporary approval option follows the earlier publication of MCMC’s TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS FOR IMT-2020 (FIFTH GENERATION) SYSTEM for public comment.

As part of the temporary approval, certain 5G NR frequency bands have opened for Type Approval applications. The bands opened for 5G NR are n28 (700 MHz), n77 (3700 MHz), n78 (3500 MHz), in line with 5G bands initially identified in previous 5G Task Force publications.

For further details on band requirements and for a copy of the draft technical specification for IMT-2020, please do get in touch.
