The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has recently published updated Standard Radio System Plans (SRSPs) governing Fixed Wireless Systems (FWS). Effective 25 February 2026, these plans (SRSP FS 6.425, SRSP FS 7.111, and SRSP FS 7.425) outline the minimum technical and regulatory requirements for equipment operating across the 6 GHz and 7 GHz frequency ranges.

The primary focus of these bands remains transport (trunking) and mobile backhaul networks. Manufacturers should be aware of several key regulatory shifts that may influence product development and market strategy:
  • Mandatory Certification: All FWS communications equipment must be certified under Regulation 14 of the Communications and Multimedia (Technical Standards) Regulations 2000.
  • IMT Transition: The range between 7025 MHz and 7125 MHz has been earmarked for potential International Mobile Telecommunications (IMT) deployment, which could necessitate the future vacation of this band by existing FWS users.
  • Technical Parameters: Specific requirements regarding minimum path lengths (standardized at 20 km) and channel spacing (ranging from 7 MHz up to 56 MHz) have been clarified.
  • Coexistence and Sharing: New priority protocols have been established for Fixed Satellite Service (FSS) and Meteorological-Satellite (MetSat) stations, including strict protection zones that limit FWS deployment.

For manufacturers operating in border regions, the updated plans also reiterate the necessity of cross-border coordination with Singapore, Brunei, Indonesia, and Thailand, governed by specific operational limits and EIRP thresholds. Navigating these requirements is essential for ensuring supply chain readiness and avoiding market entry barriers.
