SDPPI establishes Technical Standards for non-cellular LPWAN

Following a previous public consultation on the Technical Standards for Non-Cellular Low Power Wide Area Network Telecommunications Equipment, the Ministry of Communications and Informatics of the Republic of Indonesia (SDPPI) has published KOMINFO Keputusan (KOMINFO Decree) No. 05 dated 3 January 2024.

This decision of the SDPPI consists of the following points:

  1. 1.- Establish technical standards for non-cellular LPWAN Telecommunications Equipment as stated in this Ministerial Decree annex.

  2. 2.- Non-cellular LPWAN Telecommunications Equipment must be permanently factory locked permanently so that they only operate in the radio frequency band stipulated in this Ministerial Decree. 

  3. 3.- Compliance with the technical standards for non-cellular LPWAN telecommunications equipment as stipulated in the first paragraph of this decision is evidenced by certificates of telecommunication equipment in accordance with the provisions of laws and regulations.

  4. 4.- Compliance with the technical standards for non-cellular LPWAN telecommunications equipment as stipulated in the first paragraph of this decision concerning non-ionizing radiation is determined by a separate Ministerial Decree.

  5. 5.- Compliance with the technical standards for non-cellular LPWAN telecommunications equipment as stipulated in the first paragraph of this decision concerning immunity in electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) requirements is determined by a separate Ministerial Decree. 

  6. 6.- Test reports for non-cellular LPWAN telecommunications equipment issued before the entry into force of this Ministerial Decree may continue to be submitted for certification of telecommunications equipment and/or telecommunications devices as long as such reports do not contradict this Ministerial Decree and/or the provisions of laws and regulations.

  7. 7.- This Ministerial Decree comes into force on the date of stipulation (January 3, 2024).

NICTA Update on Type Approval Certificate Validity

Papua New Guinea’s National Information and Communications Technology Authority (NICTA) has updated its type approval process. Certificates issued through the new Type Approval Online System (TAOS) from 2025 will now have a standardized three-year validity.
