On June 18, 2025, Colombia’s Communications Regulation Commission (CRC) published External Circular No. 162, introducing significant changes to the type approval process for terminal equipment. This new regulation will come into effect on August 1, 2025.

Key changes:

  • Scope expansion: The approval requirement is extended to include fixed wireless terminals, satellite equipment, and other devices operating in IMT bands.
  • Band update: The requirements are aligned with the 2500 MHz and 3500 MHz bands, recently allocated for the deployment of 5G networks in Colombia.
  • Revised technical standards: Compliance with international standards such as 3GPP (for network compatibility) and IEEE / ICNIRP (for electromagnetic exposure limits – SAR) is now mandatory.
  • Enhanced documentation: More detailed information will be required regarding supported bands, output power, technologies, and SAR reports (where applicable).

Devices approved before this date will remain valid, but any later modifications will be subject to the new requirements.
