On 7th October 2024, ANATEL published Act No. 14430, which updates the certification requirements for Access Terminal Stations (ETA) and Mobile Cellular Phones under Act No. 3151/2020.

The amendments introduced by Act No. 14430/2024 stipulate that, starting April 6, 2025, only cell phones and access terminal stations equipped with at least 4G technology or higher will be eligible for certification. The new criteria allow for certification of devices with 2G and 3G technology, provided they also include 4G or higher capabilities.

The primary goal of these new requirements is to ensure that the equipment approved by the Agency remains compatible with the latest networks (4G and 5G). This measure aims to prevent disruptions when providers phase out 2G and 3G networks, thereby protecting users of telecommunications services and products from potential losses.

Act No. 14430 can be found here.
