Following an announcement of Uzbekistan becoming an "observer" country for EAEU at the end of last year, the memorandum on cooperation between the Eurasian Economic Commission and the Government of the Republic of Uzbekistan, as well as the plan of joint activities for 2021-2023 were signed on 30th of April 2021.

The memorandum provisions multiple activities in different areas, including cooperation in technical regulation between both parties, which according to representative of Uzbekistan may lead to gradual harmonization of EAEU technical regulation.

Uzbekistan has it own national type approval requirements and even though it appears to be an early stage of their cooperation with EAEU, it is important to monitor future development of the activities laid out in the memorandum should they decide to join the EAEU as a Member State or adopt their regulations for EMC, Safety, RoHS and Energy Efficiency.
