TRC publish new type approval regulation

TRC in Sri Lanka have published “Radio and Telecommunications Terminal Equipment (RTTE) Type Approval Rules 2020” in the gazette of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka.

The regulation introduces several new requirements for type approval including:

-          Introduction of a standard and simplified approval route
-          1 sample required to support type approval applications, with TRC reserving the right to request up to 2 samples
-          Mandatory labelling requirements for all equipment approved by TRC
-          4-year validity period for all approval certificates

TRC have also introduced a list of equipment exempt from type approval in Sri Lanka. Equipment exempt from approval include:

-          short range infrared remote control equipment including TV remote controls, garage door opener
-          radio equipment embedded in Desktop Computers and Laptops that use short-range radio technologies such as WiFi and Bluetooth
-          Transmitter equipment with output power below 50mW
-          Radio equipment installed in a vehicle as part of it such as car navigation units, remote car keys that use short range technologies such as WiFi and Bluetooth

The new type approval rules will come into force effect on 16th December 2020, though any applicants for type approval are required to follow the new requirements immediately.
