Mandatory UKCA deadline extended to 2023

The UK government has deferred mandatory UKCA marking requirements by one year to 2023.

CE marking can continue to be used instead of the UKCA mark until 1 January 2023 where currently CE-marked merchandise obtained through any self-declaration and/or mandatory third-party conformity assessment has been carried out by an EU-recognized notified body (including a body in a country with which the EU has a relevant mutual recognition agreement). The British Information Commissioner’s Office published the news on its website in order to allow businesses further time to adjust to the new requirements.

It is recommended that manufacturers and importers adapt to the new model as soon as possible and by 1 January 2023 at the latest. If for example, the EU changes its rules and the product in question is marked based on the new EU rules, which are different from the UK requirements, then the use of the CE mark in the UK will not be allowed. This will be the case even if the change takes place before January 1, 2023. As such, Eleos recommend transitioning to UKCA as soon as possible.
