The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has officially released the Telecommunication Equipment Standards Regulations, 2024 (S.R.O. 1110(I)/2026). These regulations establish the mandatory technical requirements and certification pathways for manufacturers, importers, and licensees operating within the Pakistani market.

These new regulations supersede the previous Type Approval Technical Standards Regulations, 2021, and the Regulations for Telecom Equipment’s Standards, 2022. The 2024 update streamlines the compliance landscape by aligning with international standards from bodies such as the ITU, FCC, and ETSI, covering:
  • Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC)
  • Health and Safety
  • Optical and Laser Safety
  • Radio Frequency (RF) and Wireless Connectivity
  • Mobile and Terrestrial Communication Systems

Key changes include updated definitions for wireless technologies and revised documentation requirements for obtaining a Certificate of Compliance (CoC), including the necessity for accredited test reports and network connectivity diagrams. The PTA has also reinforced its inspection and enforcement powers, mandating that all stakeholders maintain records of telecommunication equipment for at least three years.

For manufacturers and importers, these updates represent a shift in the compliance lifecycle. Ensuring your product portfolio aligns with these technical specifications is critical for maintaining market entry and avoiding regulatory delays.
