ANE Seeks input on 900 MHz Spectrum for IoT

25-JUN-25

On June 3, 2025, Colombia’s National Spectrum Agency (ANE) announced a proposal to open parts of the 900 MHz band that were previously reserved exclusively for mobile network operators. This significant regulatory shift is aimed at creating new opportunities for the Internet of Things (IoT), private networks, and utility companies by "flexibilizing" the licensed frequency segments of 896-915 MHz and 941-960 MHz. This initiative creates a new opportunity for manufacturers and does not impact the existing unlicensed Short-Range Device (SRD) band at 915-928 MHz.

ANE has opened a public consultation on this proposal and invites all interested parties, including international manufacturers, to provide feedback. This is a critical opportunity to influence the final technical rules for the band before they are finalized. You can find more details about the government's goals for this spectrum on the page with the official announcement

Comments and suggestions must be submitted by the deadline of July 1, 2025. All feedback should be sent directly to the ANE via email at contactenos@ane.gov.co.
