The Communications and Media Commission (CMC) of Iraq has issued the “Regulation on Short Range Radio Communication Devices (SRD) and Devices Using Ultra-Wideband (UWB) Technology”, marking a significant advancement in the country’s radio spectrum management.

The regulation, effective 22 September 2025 under Decision No. 122/Q/2025, outlines the conditions for manufacturing, importing, and using SRD and UWB devices in Iraq. It defines frequency ranges, emission limits, and operational conditions to prevent harmful interference with other radio services.

The regulation aligns Iraq’s spectrum framework with ETSI and ITU standards, covering applications such as:
  • - Bluetooth (BLE), Wi-Fi (WLAN), and NFC communications
  • - RFID systems and wireless tracking devices
  • - UWB radar and sensor technologies
  • - 6 GHz band (5945-6425 MHz) for Wi-Fi 6E and Wi-Fi 7.

By introducing these provisions, the CMC aims to improve spectrum utilization, support wireless innovation, and facilitate the introduction of new wireless technologies in the Iraqi market.
