The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has released revised guidelines for implementing IS 18112:2025, “Digital Television Receiver for Satellite Broadcast Transmission Specification (First Revision).”

Key highlights:
  • - All television sets must comply with IS 18112 along with IS 616:2017/IEC 60065:2014 safety standards.
  • - The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has set 26 October 2025 as the last date for implementation of IS 18112.
  • - The concurrent running of IS 18112:2022 and IS 18112:2025 will end on 30 December 2025, after which only IS 18112:2025 will apply.
  • - Existing licensees must update their scope of licence to include IS 18112 requirements, with compliance supported by relevant test reports.
  • - Manufacturers are encouraged to apply directly under IS 18112:2025 to align with the latest requirements and avoid reprocessing later.
  • - Licensees must display the Indian Standard numbers IS 616/IEC 60065 and IS 18112 under a single licence number below the Standard Mark.

Significant changes in IS 18112:2025 include:
  • - Updated definitions (IS 1885 Part 24:2023).
  • - Inclusion of IS/IEC 62368-1 as an alternative safety standard.

  • - Removal of power consumption requirement (covered under BEE regulations).
  • - Expanded compliance guidance in Tables 1 & 2.
  • - New mute-to-unmute functionality in remote controls.
