UAE opens additional spectrum to facilitate the expansion of 5G

On 15-Sep-2020, Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) of United Arab Emirates announced the allocation of a new frequency band that allows UAE telecom operators to expand the application of 5G.

Frequencies in the millimeter wave range between 24.25 - 27.5 GHz have been allocated to the development of 5G networks.  The band will be allocated in two phases based on the equipment availability. 

The first phase (September 2020) sees the frequency band 26.5-27.5 GHz allocated to the operators. The second phase will start in the third quarter of 2021, through which 1 GHz will be allocated per operator in the (25.5 - 27.5 GHz) range.

NICTA Update on Type Approval Certificate Validity

Papua New Guinea’s National Information and Communications Technology Authority (NICTA) has updated its type approval process. Certificates issued through the new Type Approval Online System (TAOS) from 2025 will now have a standardized three-year validity. Certificates issued between 2022 and 2025 have been reissued to align with this validity period, while certificates issued before 2022 are considered expired and require renewal through a formal application.
