ISED's consultation on the technical and policy framework for license-exempt use in the 6 GHz frequency band is currently underway.  Comments are welcome up until 19-Jan-2021.

ISED is proposing to permit the operation of very low-power indoor and outdoor RLANs in the entire 5925-7125 MHz band, with maximum permitted e.i.r.p. limit of 14 dBm and maximum permitted power spectral density of -8 dBm/MHz, subject to the use of a contention-based protocol (e.g. listen-before-talk).

ISED is proposing to permit the operation of low-power indoor-only RLANs in the entire 5925-7125 MHz band, with maximum permitted e.i.r.p. limit of 30 dBm and maximum permitted power spectral density of 5 dBm/MHz, subject to the use of a contention-based protocol (e.g. listen-before-talk).

ISED is also proposing to permit the operation of standard-power RLANs in the 5925-6425 MHz sub-band, the 6425-6525 MHz sub-band, and the 6525-6875 MHz sub-band, subject to the following limits:

· indoor and outdoor operation would be permitted

· maximum permitted e.i.r.p. would be 36 dBm

· maximum permitted power spectral density would be limited to 23 dBm/MHz

· standard-power access points would only be permitted to operate under the control of an automated frequency coordination (AFC) system

· operation would only be permitted on specific frequency channels at the corresponding maximum permitted e.i.r.p. (at or below 36 dBm) on each of the channels, as dictated by the AFC system

This contrasts to FCC rule, in that operation of standard-power devices is also being proposed in the U-NII-6 (6425-6525 MHz) sub-band
