NBTC announces Termination of Type Approval and Importation for 2G/3G-Only Equipment

On 9th June 2025, The National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) issued a notification regarding the phase-out of 2G and 3G-only telecommunications equipment. This move reflects the continued shift toward more advanced network technologies in Thailand.

Key Points:
 -
NBTC will no longer issue type approval certificates (Class B) for equipment that supports only 2G or 3G technologies after 30 June 2025.
 - The importation of 2G/3G-only devices will be permitted only up to the effective date.
 - Devices that combine 2G/3G with newer technologies such as 4G or 5G will still be eligible for type approval and importation under existing procedures.
 - Devices previously approved and already present in the Thai market may continue to be sold or used. This announcement applies solely to new models or imports initiated after the effective date.
