Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has approved new draft Type Approval Technical Standards Regulations 2021 earlier this year, still pending publication in the national Gazette.

The new Technical Regulation includes updated exemption list, whereby two of the following equipment categories have been removed from the list, eliciting manufacturers to obtain mandatory Type Approval for each of the categories once published:

1. Tablet PC with WLAN only functionality (Non-Sim based devices);
2. Smart watches with Bluetooth/WLAN functionality only (Without Sim or tracking features).

Another significant changes in the new regulation include adding of:

1. Ultra Wide Band devices as a device category requiring Type Approval in Pakistan;
2. 62368 Safety standards in the list of acceptable testing standards.

Eleos team is working with the regulator to confirm expected publication date in the Gazette and, most importantly, whether the new regulation will come into effect with retrospective effect or will apply only to newly imported equipment on the market.

The full text of the new draft regulation can be shared upon request.
