On November 6, 2024, Nicaragua published the General Law of Convergent Telecommunications (Law No. 1223/2024), replacing the outdated Law No. 200. This new regulatory framework is designed to accommodate emerging technologies such as 5G networks, the Internet of Things (IoT), and mobile internet services, aligning Nicaragua with global telecommunications trends.

The law grants TELCOR the authority to manage the radio spectrum, set fees, and oversee equipment type approval to ensure compliance with international standards. It also introduces incentives to expand connectivity in rural areas and establishes labeling requirements for approved devices.

With its implementation scheduled for November 2025, this regulation aims to modernize telecommunications infrastructure, drive digital transformation, and ensure more equitable access to ICT across Nicaragua.
