ISED has issued a public consultation on RSS-247 Issue 3

The Department of Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada is seeking comments on the consultation of RSS-247, issue 3, Digital Transmission Systems (DTSs), Frequency Hopping Systems (FHSs) and Licence-Exempt Local Area Network (LE-LAN) Devices”.  This standard sets out the requirements for equipment certification of radio apparatus operating in the bands 902‑928 MHz, 2400-2483.5 MHz and 5725-5850 MHz employing frequency hopping, digital modulation and/or a combination (hybrid) of both techniques, as well as licence-exempt local area network (LE-LAN) devices operating in the bands 5150-5250 MHz, 5250-5350 MHz, 5470-5725 MHz, 5725-5850 MHz, and 5850-5895 MHz.  
 
ISED is mainly seeking comments on the requirements for the 5850-5895 MHz band associated with the publication of SMSE 012-22 Decision on the Technical and Policy Framework for Radio Local Area Network Devices in the 5850-5895 MHz Band and for Intelligent Transportation Systems in the 5895-5925 MHz Band.

NICTA Update on Type Approval Certificate Validity

Papua New Guinea’s National Information and Communications Technology Authority (NICTA) has updated its type approval process. Certificates issued through the new Type Approval Online System (TAOS) from 2025 will now have a standardized three-year validity. Certificates issued between 2022 and 2025 have been reissued to align with this validity period, while certificates issued before 2022 are considered expired and require renewal through a formal application.
