Argentina has introduced a new Electrical Safety conformity assessment framework through Resolution 237/2024,
The resolution aims to streamline the certification process and enhance market surveillance, but it also brings about important changes that manufacturers need to be aware of.

Key Changes and Impacts:

  • Expanded Acceptance of Foreign Certifications and Tests: The new framework allows for greater acceptance of certifications and test reports from foreign entities that have agreements with Argentina. This could simplify the certification process for manufacturers who have already obtained certifications in other countries.
  • Shift in Customs Control: The responsibility for verifying compliance with technical regulations has been shifted from Customs to the National Directorate of Technical Regulations (DNRT). This means that products will no longer be checked for compliance at the border, but rather through post-market surveillance.
  • New Conformity Marking with QR Code: The resolution introduces a new conformity marking system that includes a QR code. This QR code will link to the product's Declaration of Conformity and certification, providing easy access to compliance information. Manufacturers will have until the end of March 2025, to implement this new marking system.
  • Other Notable Changes: The resolution also introduces changes to procedures for certificate transfers and extensions, adaptation to local market requirements, and the "Sin Derecho a Uso" (No Right to Use) process.

Immediate Recommendations for Manufacturers:

  • The DNRT will be issuing specific resolutions for different technical regulations, including those related to radio devices. Manufacturers should closely monitor these updates to ensure their products remain compliant.
  • Also manufacturers need to start planning for the implementation of the new QR code conformity marking system within the given timeframe.
