Thailand’s telecommunications regulator, the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC), has launched a new public consultation covering five draft announcements related to radio communication and radar technologies. The initiative reflects the country’s efforts to strengthen telecom regulation and adapt to rapidly advancing wireless technologies.
The draft regulations address several areas, including technical standards for radar equipment, licensing conditions for radio communication devices, and the use of specific radio frequency bands. One of the key proposals focuses on devices operating in the 57–64 GHz spectrum, a frequency range commonly associated with high-speed wireless communication and next-generation radar applications.
The NBTC is also proposing updated standards for radar systems used in land transportation and traffic management. These changes are expected to support the development of intelligent transportation systems, automotive radar technologies, and other advanced communication infrastructure across Thailand.
Five Draft Announcements Under Consultation:
- Draft NBTC Announcement on Criteria for the use of Frequency and Radar Radio Communication Equipment Permitted for General Use
- Draft NBTC Announcement on Technical Standards for Telecommunication Equipment and Devices for Radar Radiocommunication Equipment without Application Restrictions
- Draft NBTC Announcement on Technical Standards for Telecommunication Equipment and Devices for Radar Radiocommunication Equipment for Land Traffic and Transportation
- Draft NBTC Announcement on Criteria for the Use of Frequency and Radio Communication Equipment permitted for General Use (Version 2)
- Draft NBTC Announcement on Technical Standards for Telecommunication Equipment and Devices for Radar Radiocommunication Equipment permitted for General Use, Frequency 57–64 GHz
According to industry analysts, the proposed announcements could provide greater regulatory clarity for manufacturers, importers, and telecom equipment providers seeking to operate in the Thai market. The updated framework may also encourage innovation while ensuring compliance with international technical standards.
The public consultation officially began on May 4, 2026, and will continue through July 3, 2026. During this period, businesses, industry organizations, and other stakeholders are invited to submit feedback and participate in public hearings organized by the NBTC.
The consultation is part of Thailand’s broader effort to modernize its telecommunications sector and improve governance over emerging digital and wireless technologies.
