The draft document sets out the Generic Requirements (GR) for Millimeter Wave (E-Band) Microwave Equipment under Draft Standard TEC 36060:2026. It mainly covers point-to-point digital radio relay equipment intended for use in Indian telecom networks.
Scope
The standard applies to E-Band microwave equipment operating in the 71–76 GHz and 81–86 GHz bands. The equipment is mainly intended for short-distance, high-capacity links such as intra-city connections, enterprise networks and small-cell backhaul. Systems covered by the standard can support net radio throughput of up to 10 Gbps.
Key Technical Requirements
- Operating modes: Equipment can support FDD, TDD and SF-STAR operation.
- Frequency and channel bandwidth: Operation is within the 71–76 GHz and 81–86 GHz bands, with channel spacing ranging from 62.5 MHz to 2000 MHz.
- Modulation: Adaptive modulation is required, starting from BPSK and supporting modulation levels up to 512 QAM or higher.
- Interfaces: A range of Ethernet interfaces can be supported, including FE, GE, 10G through SFP+ and 25G, in line with applicable IEEE 802.3 requirements.
- Synchronisation: The equipment should support SyncE and IEEE 1588v2 Transparent Clock functionality, with reference to relevant ITU-T standards such as G.8261, G.8262, G.8271.1 and G.8275.1.
- Network resilience and management: Support for G.8032 ring or mesh protection is optional. The specification also allows for SDN-ready equipment using NETCONF/YANG.
- Environmental and safety requirements: Equipment must meet the environmental requirements of TEC 14016:2010, normally Category D or E. Outdoor units are required to provide at least IP65 protection. Safety requirements are based on standards such as IS 13252 Part 1:2010 or IEC 62368-1.
- EMC: The equipment must meet CISPR 32 emission requirements as well as the relevant IEC 61000-4 immunity tests referenced in TEC 11016, including ESD, radiated RF, fast transients, surge and voltage interruption tests.
- Quality and reliability: A minimum MTBF of 500,000 hours is specified, along with compliance with ISO 9001:2015 quality management requirements.
- Power supply: The normal supply is -48 V DC, although PoE or 230 V/415 V AC supplies may also be supported depending on the equipment configuration.
The final equipment configuration is expected to depend on the purchaser’s requirements. This includes the required modulation level, interfaces, antenna arrangement and other system options.
