The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has introduced an automated framework to strengthen Type Approval compliance for all SIM-enabled communications devices imported, sold, or used within Nigeria. This initiative is mandated under Section 132(2) of the Nigerian Communications Act 2003.

Technology Platform: The Device Management System (DMS) serves as the core platform for monitoring and enforcing compliance.

Objective: To ensure all communications equipment meets applicable technical and regulatory standards, improve network performance, and facilitate the identification of non-compliant devices.

Central Registry: The system maintains a central registry of International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) numbers for devices operating within Nigeria.

Key Requirements for Manufacturers and Suppliers

Mandatory Registration: All SIM-enabled devices must be registered with the NCC before they can be sold or used in the country.

Market Enforcement: Devices that are not duly registered will be prohibited from operating on Nigerian mobile networks.

Phased Implementation: The initial phase focuses on onboarding existing stock and ensuring that all future imports are appropriately registered through the DMS.
