FCC Public Notice – Conditional Approvals for Drones, Routers and Robotic Devices
The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has issued a Public Notice confirming that the Department of War (DoW) has granted Conditional Approval for certain uncrewed aircraft systems (UAS), routers and advanced robotic devices. These approved products are exempt from the FCC's Covered List restrictions, which apply to equipment considered a potential risk to US national security.
Key Points
- Drones (UAS): Exemptions include products on the DoW's Blue UAS Cleared List, qualifying US domestic products and certain toy drones.
- Routers: Foreign-produced routers may be exempt if they receive Conditional Approval from the DoW or Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
- Robotic Devices and Power Inverters: Certain foreign-produced products may also qualify for exemptions through DoW Conditional Approval.
- Approval Conditions: Manufacturers must follow the onshoring plans submitted with their applications and meet any ongoing product review requirements.
- Withdrawal of Approval: Conditional Approval may be cancelled if a manufacturer fails to follow its approved plan or provides false or misleading information.
The notice also lists approved manufacturers and product models, including the Dronus K500L drone, Vivid-Hosting VH-109 router and Matic Robots 4MA0001, along with their approval dates.
The FCC will continue monitoring these approvals and updating its Covered List when necessary.
Impact on Manufacturers: Companies with affected products should check whether their devices qualify for an exemption and ensure they continue to meet the conditions of their approval.
