This notice from the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) enforces Type Approval compliance for all SIM-enabled devices in Nigeria.
**Scope**
The requirements apply to all Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), Original Device Manufacturers (ODMs), importers, distributors, and dealers involved in the manufacture, importation, supply, and sale of SIM-enabled devices within the Nigerian market.
**Key Technical and Compliance Requirements**
* **Type Approval:** All device models intended for importation, assembly, distribution, or sale must obtain valid NCC Type Approval, as mandated by the Nigerian Communications Act 2003 and the Type Approval Regulations 2024.
* **Device Verification:** Responsible suppliers are required to submit the International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) information for individual devices through the NCC’s approved verification process before sale and distribution.
* **Existing Stock:** Distributors, dealers, and retailers are responsible for ensuring that all current inventory complies with these Type Approval and verification requirements by working with suppliers to resolve any outstanding issues.
* **Enforcement:** The NCC is implementing an automated compliance process to monitor devices entering the market. Failure to meet these requirements may result in devices being restricted from accessing Nigerian mobile telecommunications networks.
